Like anything that contains water, ponds need to be properly taken care of. Giving regular maintenance to your pond isn’t only making sure your filter is clean and that your plants and fishes are okay.

Here are 5 tips you probably didn’t know about pond maintenance:

1. Clean Your Pond Regularly

You might be overreading this, but you must clean your pond regularly. Don’t just leave it to the filtering system. Make sure the space is clean and that there are not any abnormalities. This can go from making sure there are no dead plants or animals to accumulating waste in the bottom.

2. Enough Ecosystem

As a pond owner, you need to understand that your pond has to have the right amount of plants and fish. This is talked about when you are with your pond builders and designers. What are the use and the living things you will have, and how much will it be included?

Do not have too many fish if your pond is not big enough and has the right plants. The key is balance,

3. Filtering

The bigger the pond, the bigger the problem. Make sure your filter is properly working, especially in-between seasons. Some pond owners are not aware of that and may experience some problems with the filters.

So, next time you feel that weather changes in-between seasons, make sure to check your pond filter system is working properly and save yourself some costly pond maintenance projects.

4. Water Temperature

Along with the last time comes this one. Ensure the water temperature in your pond is adequate for the season you are in and the living things you have if you have a Koi pond or any other pond with fishes. Make sure to have an adequate temperature for them and the season they are in.

5. Plants Near Your Pond

Believe it or not, even the plants in your garden can affect your pond maintenance. If you have trees close to or nearby the pong, there are high chance leaves may fall and can affect your pond.

Don’t worry! You don’t have to cut your beautiful tree to maintain your pond. A simple solution is to use a trap net to ensure no leaves or other things fall into the pond.
